There’s plenty to drink at Donovans. However, I’ve made a great discovery in the small hamlet of Cygnet in the Huon Valley in Tasmania – Pagan Cider! I got turned on to cider several years back in Ireland, particularly over ice on a sunny afternoon after a game of golf.
Pagan delivers outstanding examples of this age old brew. Their apple and pear are alluring with no added sugars, all natural fruit. And over their short life, they have experimented with different berries with wonderful results. My favourite is the Cerise, the French word for cherry. Wow! Serve it chilled in a wine glass and enjoy this apple/cherry blend. It is reminiscent of pinot noir with a little sparkle. But don’t forget to try the Quince. The blend of quince and apple is heavenly; I love it with cheese.
